Tokyo Engagement

Sometimes we receive some interesting requests here at Maction Planet, and we do our best to meet them all. In fact, handling them has become such normality that when Mike messaged me in March 2016 asking if I would procure him an “engagement ring” which he would use to propose to his wonderful fiancé Jo, I didn’t think anything of it!

Now, Mike clearly did not want me to purchase a Mikimoto ring! However, he did want something Japanese and with a story behind it, and, after some thought, I figured out what to do!

Mike and Jo did not have a lot of time in Tokyo but they wanted to explore as much of the Shinjuku and Shibuya areas as possible. We started off by heading from their hotel to get a gorgeous view over the city, coinciding our visit perfectly for sunset. After that, we grabbed a quick drink in Golden Gai, via a tour of Kabukicho, before heading to Shibuya to eat in one of my favourite Izakayas, followed by a craft beer and cocktail bar crawl around Shibuya.

The exact details of what was purchased will stay between the three of us. At some point during our evening together I was able to pass the ring to Mike when Jo wasn’t looking . He later informed me that he conducted the proposal in Yoyogi Park the next day before they headed to Kyoto. I’m honoured to have been a small part of their story. They will be getting married in September 2017 and the reason I am writing this today is that I just received a wedding invite! I am truly flattered and cannot wait to see them again in Kilkenny, Ireland. I wonder if I have to bring over the wedding ring?!
