Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium, Tokyo, Japan home of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows

This Week in Tokyo – 28 December 2021

Welcome to ‘This Week in Tokyo’, a review of the Maction Planet week that was and a look ahead to what’s coming up in the city. Hosted by Mac, our Founder and Lead Guide, you can check out photos from our tours and read insights into our explorations as we get under the skin of the World’s Greatest Metropolis, and beyond! This week: That’s a wrap at Jingu Stadium; Happy Holidays from Maction and Kanpai Planets; ‘Can’t wait to share’ Whiskies and Mejiro Station Stained Glass.

That’s a wrap at Jingu Stadium: 26 December was the final day the Swallows Crew office was open at Meiji Jingu Stadium. As I still had thousands of Swileage (Swallows loyalty points) left to use, I had reason to visit the stadium and say a personal goodbye to an incredible 2021 for Swallows fans, as the team managed to claim the Japan Series title for the first time in 20 years. I’m so used to this scene teaming with people that having it to myself was a strange experience.

Happy Holidays 2021 from Maction Planet in Omotesando

Happy Holidays from Maction Planet: Followers of the Maction Planet social media (links at the bottom of this page) will have seen this image, wishing you all Happy Holidays from Maction Planet, direct from the World’s Greatest Metropolis!

The photo comes from the Omotesando Illumination event, with 900,000 LED lights singing out from the 150 Zelkova trees that line the 1.1km of Omotesando Avenue from sunset until 22:00. The full display was on from 1 to 26 December, but the shrub lighting remains until 5 January 2022.

Thank you all for your incredible support during 2021. We continue…

Happy Holidays 2021 from Kanpai Planet

Happy Holidays from Kanpai Planet: My sister project Kanpai Planet, showcasing the world of Japan’s drinks, was not to be outdone! Again, this image was shared on the Kanpai Planet social media, which you should all be following on your platform of choice: YouTube | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn

Can’t wait to share’ Whiskies: Another year, another Christmas Challenge from Andrew at PrestigeLiquidsWW. I was challenged by Ant and Nicky from New Dram Drinker to select three whiskies I bought during lockdown that I can’t wait to share with friends. It took even tighter editing than usual to get backstory, 3 whisky recommendations and 3 WhiskyTuber challenges into 60 SECONDS, but I pulled it off in Kanpai Planet’s first YouTube Short! Kanpai!

JR Mejiro Station, Tokyo

Mejiro Station Stained Glass: Apropos of nothing, here’s the stained glass facade of Mejiro Station, built in 2000. ‘Nuff said.
