This Week in Tokyo – 26 March 2019
The latest edition of This Week in Tokyo – a review of the Maction Planet week that was and a look ahead to what’s coming up in and beyond the city. Check out photos from our tours and read insights into our explorations as we get under the skin of the World’s Greatest Metropolis, and beyond. This week’s edition is hosted by Mac, our Founder and Lead Guide. This week: Hanami, not just for humans; Dreams come true; Don’t forget the Shidare; Ginza Place Hanami and Full Face of Fuji!
Featured image – Hanami, not just for humans: Sakura fever has hit the World’s Greatest Metropolis and all its inhabitants have caught the bug, like this Shiba Inu we spotted by the side of Shinobazu Pond. The little fella is absolutely having it large!
Dreams come true: I absolutely love this candid photo of my guests Anzary and Joe which I was able to snap as they admired a magnificent Somei Yoshino in close-to-full bloom on Sunday 24 March. It has been their dream to see the magnificent blossoms in the World’s Greatest Metropolis for a long time, and I was honoured that they chose Maction Planet to be a part of that.
Don’t forget the Shidare: It isn’t all about the Somei Yoshino… this magnificent Shidarezakura at the edge of Ueno Park was rightly getting a lot of attention on Monday 25 March.
Ginza Place Hanami: Even the buildings are celebrating the upcoming hanami season. The architectural masterpiece Ginza Place has entered ‘Sakura Mode’ and is lit up in very seasonal colours right now, until 14 April.
All this talk of hanami and sakura reminds me that you only have a few more days to go to grab tickets for the Maction Planet x Shochu Pro Hanami 2019. We are collaborating once again with Baird Beer and shochu expert Chris Pellegrini to hold an exclusive cherry blossom party in Yoyogi Park on Sunday 31 March 2019. You can get yourself in the mood for Hanami 2019 by watching this incredible video of Hanami 2017. More info can be found here and tickets are available for purchase here.
And finally… Full Face of Fuji: Shelley, Mo and I were blessed with this incredible view of Mount Fuji on their Private Hakone Tour on Wednesday 20 March. As some like to point out, #nofilter! It definitely warranted a selfie to mark our fun day out filled with culture, history, art, great food and more, topped with a magnificent cloudless view of the full face of Fuji!
