The latest edition of This Week in Tokyo – a review of the Maction Planet week that was and a look ahead to what’s coming up in and beyond the city. Check out photos from our tours and read insights into our explorations as we get under the skin of the World’s Greatest Metropolis, and beyond. This week’s edition, continuing a fully-booked June for Maction Planet, is hosted by Mac, our Founder and Lead Guide. This week: Catman in (Neco) ActionSky over Sensoji on Sunday 16 June 2019Sunset over the ShinkansenKoto Klassics and Lolitas vs. Rickshaw!

Catman in (Neco) Action: Even I did a double take as my guest Killian and I stumbled across this Catman hanging out outside legendary ailurophile store Neco Action. He nonchalantly gave us a peace sign; we snapped a shot and continued on our way discussing Edo-era history. And that was that!

Sky over Sensoji, Asakusa, Tokyo on Sunday 16 June

Sky over Sensoji on Sunday 16 June 2019: ‘Nuff said!

Sunset over the Shinkansen on Monday 17 June 2019

Sunset over the Shinkansen: The skies over the World’s Greatest Metropolis have been amazing over the last few days. I was admiring this sunset with my guest Elisabeth Jones-Hennessey, watching bullet trains on their way to the Tokyo terminus while discussing her new business venture Gift Me Chic. She is planning a full launch in the autumn, but in the meantime you can follow her on her digital diary and on all her social media.

Koto Klassics: Koto player in Aman Tokyo Hotel lobby

Koto Klassics: One of the benefits of meeting my guests in the lovely hotels they stay in is that I get to enjoy wonderful performances from great musicians, such as this amazing Koto player in the lobby of the Aman Tokyo.

Lolitas vs Rickshaw in Asakusa, Tokyo

And finally… Lolitas vs. Rickshaw: Luckily things ended peacefully in what could have been an epic showdown between two diverse Tokyo sub-cultures!
