Vel and Mariana cheersing at Baird Beer Nakameguro on a Maction Planet Tokyo Craft Beer Tour

This Week in Tokyo – 18 February 2020

Welcome to ‘This Week in Tokyo’, a review of the Maction Planet week that was and a look ahead to what’s coming up in the city. Hosted by Mac, our Founder and Lead Guide, you can check out photos from our tours and read insights into our explorations as we get under the skin of the World’s Greatest Metropolis, and beyond! This week: Kanpai with Vel and Mariana; Rocking with Hachiko; Down in Asakusatown; “A Splash of Colour in Ueno Park” and Together with The Tokyo Life.

Featured image – Kanpai with Vel and Mariana: This week I was honoured to guide Vel and Mariana for 4 days in Tokyo. I wanted to showcase some of the great photos from our time together. This photo is of the couple drinking Baird Beer – official beer supplier of the Maction Planet x Shochu Pro Hanami 2020 (get your tickets now!) on a bespoke Tokyo IPA Tour! On Monday Vel and Mariana left the World’s Greatest Metropolis to continue their Japan adventures with other members of the Maction Planet team in Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Hiroshima. They have already written a testimonial on TripAdvisor (composed while on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto) which is truly humbling. I cannot thank them enough for their kind words and for choosing Maction Planet:

“To say that the 4 days we just spent in Tokyo (1st time in Japan) w Mac were Excellent would be an understatement- grade system of 0 to 5 can’t fully capture / measure the Experience ( with a Capital E indeed) – this is a full ‘Matrix’ Immersion experience into Japan’s History, Traditions, Culture, Architecture, Philosophy, Religions and People – all in One – in a way only a truly multidimensional all-encompassing mind like Mac’s can deliver. His attention to his guests needs, his deep deep knowledge and insights are incredible if you truly want to submerse yourself and become a Tokyo citizen for a day, or two, or Seven. Incredible . 7-star Rating TripAdvisor !:)”

Rocking with Hachiko: Here we are hanging out with Hachiko in Shibuya. ‘Nuff said!

Tokyo Tour Guide Mac with guests at the Kaminarimon, Sensoji, Tokyo

Down in Asakusatown: On Saturday we took a deep, deep dive into Tokyo’s oldest neighbourhood. There really is so much to experience in this incredible part of town… if you know where to look!

A splash of colour in Ueno Park, Tokyo

“A Splash of Colour in Ueno Park”: After being blessed with incredible weather for 3 days, Sunday began with a little rain. We began our day in Ueno Park when I spotted a shrine maiden walking through this gate. Vel was ultra quick to snap a couple of remarkable shots, and as we sat down for a coffee I made a couple of quick edits to the shot. The resultant photo is presented above for your enjoyment!

'A Day at the Sumo' video collaboration with The Tokyo Life

Together with The Tokyo Life: In other news this week, we are excited to announce that Maction Planet has begun a content creation collaboration with the Tokyo Life. You can find out more details in the press release announcing this collabration. The first output from our collaboration is a film I made showcasing ‘A Day at the Sumo’. Watch it below!
