Interactive Online Okonomiyaki Cooking Class

Online Okonomiyaki Cooking Class with Nahoko and Mac

Following the success of their first online cooking class, Maction Planet is proud to announce another Online Interactive Okonomiyaki Cooking Class and Talk Show featuring Mac, Founder and Lead Guide of Maction Planet, and Nahoko from At Home with Nahoko Cooking Classes.

On Saturday 22 August at 18:00 JST, Nahoko and Mac will hold a very special online Okonomiyaki cooking class. Mac will join Nahoko in her kitchen in Kunitachi, Tokyo. They will both be wearing face shields.

What is Okonomiyaki?

Okonomiyaki is a traditional Japanese savoury pancake. It is a fantastic, democratic food – you do not need special ingredients or tools. You can make Okonomiyaki using ingredients commonly found in your refrigerator. You can even use leftovers to mix into your Okonomiyaki!

Nahoko will teach you how to make not only delicious Okonomiyaki but also Okonomiyaki sauce and red pickled ginger, using ingredients you can get easily in your country. Mac will talk about Japanese food culture and share many stories about the history of and life in Japan, bringing his expertise on Japanese culture, history, food and drink, baseball, sumo, music… As Nahoko says, “Even I am constantly learning from him and I am from Japan!”

Interactive, Online Fun!

This is an interactive class, different from anything on Instagram Live or YouTube. You will be able to converse with Mac and Nahoko DURING THE CLASS. You can ask us questions about Japan and your cooking during the class. All of the participants can show each other their Okonomiyaki. We will all be saying ‘itadakimasu‘ and eating our Okonomiyaki at the same time.

Here’s a 5-star review of one of the 12 July session by Martina Kramer (@__martina__1501):

“Do you want the ultimate Japanese food and culture experience, but in the comfort of your own home? Then you have to join the online-cooking class of Nahoko and Mac! On July 12th they showed participants from all around the globe the art of delicious okonomiyaki, Osaka-style. Everything you need, from ingredients to cooking-tools, was sent to everyone via e-mail. The best part: for every special ingredient that your local supermarket might not have, Nahoko and Mac knew alternatives. Nahoko guided everyone through class, answered questions and gave helpful advice. Mac shared his knowledge about Japan and Nahoko’s hometown Kunitachi with everyone. The single steps were easy to follow – from pickled ginger to making homemade okonomiyaki-sauce. Mac and Nahoko always made sure that everyone was on the same page. But it was no big deal if someone needed a little more time! I can definitely recommend this class, even if you have never cooked a Japanese dish before. If you participate, make sure that your internet-connection is well enough for a zoom-group-meeting. Being able to listen to the instructions by Nahoko and Mac is essential. ありがとうございます!”
