Celebrating Nine Years of Maction Planet: Records, Recognition, and Relentless Exploration

Maction Planet, the top-rated boutique tour operator specialising in bespoke travel in Japan, is proud to celebrate the ninth anniversary of its website, www.mactionplanet.com. To mark this special occasion, here’s a message from Mac, Founder and Lead Guide of Maction Planet.

Today, we celebrate nine years since the launch of mactionplanet.com! Looking back, I am filled with immense gratitude and wonder at everything we have built together.

2025 was the most extraordinary year in the history of Maction Planet: our busiest ever, and by some distance. We welcomed more guests than we have ever had the privilege of hosting, from intimate evening whisky tastings to epic multi-week journeys across Japan. What made it so special was not just the volume but the depth of the relationships. We are seeing guests return for their fifth, sixth, and seventh tours with us. These are well-travelled, discerning people who could choose any guides in Japan, and they keep coming back. There is no greater compliment.

2025 also saw us push our geographic horizons further than ever. We ventured south to Kyushu, north to Tohoku, planned trips in Okinawa and continued to develop our increasingly popular journeys to Kanazawa with carefully curated stop-offs before and after. We have also deepened our portfolio of niche experiences, with a particular highlight being access to Toyosu Market, not usually open to tourists, for a genuinely behind-the-scenes encounter with the beating heart of Tokyo’s food culture.

Major international events brought the world’s attention to Japan in 2025 – the World Athletics Championships and the MLB Opening Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs – along with some of its most famous people. I was fortunate enough to guide some very famous during this time. I shall leave it at that.

Beyond Japan, time spent in the UK, both in the summer and over the winter, gave me perspective and also the opportunity to guide former Maction Planet guests in London. These are guests who first experienced Japan through us and wanted that same quality of exploration on their other travels. The results were deeply rewarding. Mary even wrote a review! In July 2025, Maction Planet was named a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award winner for 2025, recognising us among the top 10% of listings worldwide. We now have over 340 five-star reviews, and every single one represents a journey I am immensely proud of.

Alongside Maction Planet, our sister platform Kanpai Planet celebrated its fifth anniversary on 9 February 2026. Now entering its sixth year, it continues to grow as the definitive destination for Japanese drinks content, from whisky and sake to shochu and beyond. We are proud to be at the forefront of showcasing the world of Japan’s drinks, direct from the heart of Tokyo, and beyond.

To our partners and collaborators who help bring these experiences to life, we are endlessly grateful. But none of this would be possible without you: our guests, supporters, and community members, especially those who have spread the word about Maction Planet to their friends or taken the time to write a review. Your enthusiasm, trust, and passion inspire us every single day.
